Dr. Marcelo’s passion for teaching others about what she coins as “successful aging” lead her to found Medically Fit & Balanced, a functional medicine practice. As a functional medicine osteopathic physician, Dr. Marcelo delivers personalized medicine by treating the individual and not the disease. She works with patients to identify the underlying root causes of symptoms using a systems-oriented approach that addresses genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors.
Nutrition and exercise are the foundation of her practice. She prescribes life-style programs that complement or substitute conventional treatment models using a variety of supplements, therapeutic diets, detoxification programs, and stress-management techniques. She is also trained in hyperbaric oxygen treatments, and platelet rich plasma therapy, and adipose stem cell therapy.
Her purpose is to educate people on healthy aging by giving them the tools to naturally restore health and live abundantly. She is especially passionate about the use of essential oils in her practice. “Your body has the ability to heal and prevent nearly all diseases. Therapeutic Essential oils assist our body’s own healing process and restore balance naturally.” She’s partnered with Trista Boyenga to create Botanica Vita, which features a variety of exfoliating salt scrubs incorporating organic oils and essential oils.
In her spare time, she loves to travel, exercise (competed in her 1st body-building competition July 2016), and spend time with family and friends.
Growing up in Minnesota on a dairy farm drew on her Midwest values on American patriotism when choosing the direction in her life. Trista attended Iowa State University to complete her undergraduate studies receiving a Bachelor’s in Sociology and Minor in Military Science. She later attended graduate school at Boston University where she received a Master of Criminal Justice, focused on coursework in counter-terrorism.
Pursuing her passions, for over 12 years Trista served in the US Army and Army National Guard as an Intelligence and Counterintelligence Officer. She has extensive experience in directing and coordinating the collection, evaluation, analysis, and dissemination of intelligence in the military and public sectors. Trista has worked at every echelon of command from Battalion as a Counterintelligence Officer to the Deputy Chief of Counterintelligence and Human Intelligence for Coalition Forces Land Component Command. She did 3 tours to the Middle East, one to Kuwait with the military and two working as a defense contractor. In Iraq she was a Social Scientist and in Afghanistan she was the Deputy Regional Commander for Regional Command West Counter-IED Team.
Tragically, after sustaining a severe brain and neck injury when her vehicle was struck by a rocket propelled grenade in Iraq she began her long journey towards recovery. She started to learn about holistic alternatives and essential oils for pain and healing. She discovered the use of the oils helped to mitigate pain levels and also decreased her need for prescription medication. Holistic health became a passion for Trista and through this she met a great friend and business partner, Dr. Claudia Marcelo. Together they started developing their own products.
Botanical Vita was founded to share these amazing products with the world. Trista’s hope is to provide all-natural and organic bath & body products to anyone looking for a healthier alternative to what is currently being sold on the market.
In her spare time, Trista enjoys extensive travel and taking deeper dives into other cultures to better diversify her own education. In visiting over 30 countries at this point, she has been able to expand her knowledge of what the world is all about. Her passions is to take life in whether on the beach, cooking, or entertaining her friends, family and 13 nieces and nephews.
